Seigle Avenue Partners
"We are building hope into the lives of children and their families of the Piedmont Courts/Belmont community."
www.seigleavenuepartners.org

What
Partners provides a comprehensive out of school time program for 60 kindergarten through eight grade students from the Piedmont Courts/Belmont Community. Partners operates five days a week during non-school hours including afterschool, some holidays, teacher workdays, and summers. We offer homework assistance, reading buddies, field trips, mentors, a computer lab and library books, art and crafts, basic study skills, music, etiquette guidance and much more.

Where
Partners is currently housed in The Hope Building at the corner of Seigle Avenue and 10th Street. Additionally, this ministry takes us around the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, wherever educational opportunities exist: the library, the Charlotte Museum of History, city parks, community swimming pools, Children’s Theater, and the Asheboro Zoo. These are places many of us take for granted, yet many at-risk children never have the opportunity to visit.

Who
The success of our out of school time program is a collective effort of the students and their families, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, the community at large, our dedicated staff and volunteers, and our generous donors.

Why
Belmont/Piedmont Courts is a fragile community with staggering statistics: extremely high juvenile crime and school drop-out rates; low scores on the student competency exams; children being born regularly to teenagers; and an average household income of $12,500. Nonetheless, hope is still alive in the hearts of the children.

The Goals
Partners’ goals are to improve attitudes toward learning, improve school attendance, increase parental involvement in their children’s education, and build strong relationships between children and adults.

The Dream
Despite all of these challenges, we are working hard to strengthen families in this community and invite you to join in our efforts.
